ClariCue Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 24, 2026

ClariCue is a Chrome extension that helps Chinese-speaking users understand selected English words, phrases, and sentences while reading web pages. This policy explains what data ClariCue handles and how it is used.

Information ClariCue Handles

ClariCue may handle the following information when you use it:

How Information Is Used

ClariCue uses selected text and nearby context only to generate an English-learning explanation in Simplified Chinese and, if you choose to save it, to store the item for local review.

Local Storage

Saved vocabulary items, review state, and settings are stored locally in Chrome extension storage on your device. ClariCue does not provide accounts, cloud sync, or server-side storage.

AI Processing

By default, ClariCue first tries to use Chrome Built-in AI when it is available in your browser. When Chrome Built-in AI is unavailable, ClariCue sends the selected text, nearby context, page title, and page URL to the configured remote AI endpoint to generate an explanation. The default remote endpoint is OpenRouter at https://openrouter.ai/.

Data Sharing

ClariCue does not sell user data. ClariCue does not share data with advertising networks, data brokers, or analytics providers. Remote AI requests are sent only when needed to generate an explanation after you use the extension.

Data Retention and Deletion

Saved vocabulary items remain on your device until you delete them or clear extension data. You can use ClariCue Options to export saved items as JSON or clear all saved items.

Children

ClariCue is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated when ClariCue changes how it handles data. The latest version will be published at this URL.
